If you’re new to it, Block / Bridge / Build / Belong is a clear map of the democracy ecosystem—four complementary modes that help us act together without demanding we all act the same. These aren’t phases; they run in parallel, sometimes in tension, and work best in relationship.
Block — prevent harm, defend norms, uphold rights.
Bridge — reduce heat, increase understanding, connect across difference.
Build — co-create better systems, policies, and practices.
Belong — the culture that keeps people in the work: everyone seen, valued, and part of the whole.

Why this matters now
Urgent protection and long-term redesign live on different clocks. The work is to coordinate across clocks, not collapse them—so that blocking, bridging, building, and belonging reinforce one another. Not everyone has to do everything; what matters is seeing (and supporting) the whole.
